playerpointer - Find basketball players in your neighborhood

Page history last edited by Martin Brochhaus 11 years ago

I'm playing basketball almost every day. Singapore is awesome for playing basketball. I can't remember the source but one day I heard that there are more than 800 basketball courts in Singapore. Most of them are open to the public and in very good condition.

The problem is: Usually I play at times where most people are still at work. Or I play "just before the rain starts". The point is: I often end up playing alone.

I always wanted to create a location based service and try out GeoDjango, so this was a great opportunity to scratch my own itch and create a site that helps me to find new basketball courts and new basketball players...

You can see the prototype at https://playerpointer.com - this has been my pet project since a few months now and I am using it actively every day.

I have a ton of features in my TODO list and I am going to work on these features during Super Happy Dev House #3!

If you are a Django and Python guru and if you want to contribute code, you can checkout the project here: https://github.com/mbrochh/django-match-maker

Make sure that you get it up and running on your local machine before the event. I won't have time to help people setting this up on their local machines. I'm happy to help prior to the event, so hop over to github now, clone it, and set it up. If you got questions, email me or upen an issue at github.

If you are a talented Designer and would like to produce a logo or even a complete design draft for the whole page - dude, I'd love to team up with you. A simple PSD file would be enough for me, but if you would be able to hack your design straight into the Twitter Bootstrap template that I'm using already, you'd have earned the title "talented Designer" indeed ;)

I had the exact same idea a few months ago but with tennis.
My idea was to have something like: I want to play <select sport> at <select venue> with <how many, require exactly?> players on <which date and time, multiple dates and times possible>.
Then the system would push notification to all members interested in the same thing in the same time interval that are within <preferred> distance of the <venue>.
I'm a .Net developer thought.
